help me on this case

I share my apartment with an visiting scholar in our university. Since we are Chinese, we trusted him previously and he only stay here for 3 month, we did not sign any document and lease. He said to me by phone that he will pay by month and if he left early he also will pay for 3 months. Now he will leave early but he refused to pay the 3rd month's rent. I told him he should keep his promise. However, he did not confess what he said before and told others I want to ask for more money from him. He still lives in my apartment and has the key of the door, I feel so uncomfortable with this man.
what I can do now? if anyone can give me some suggestions, I will appreciate. thanks.
