小孩在中国住报税时能作DEPENDENT吗？

2005儿子在国内爷爷奶奶家住了大半年, TAXCUT说不能作DEPENDENT。可是IRS怎么能知道
呢？ 请问哪位有类似情况报小孩作DEPENDENT的吗？
