Can I sue them?

A few days ago, I went to a gas station to add some gas. I used my credit card, after I pumped the gas, the reader of the machine showed it was around 18 dollars, the machine asked me if I need the receipt, I answered YES by pressing the YES button, but the machine did not give me receipt, I tried several times, it still di not give me receipt. Then I left. But later on, the guy in the gas station called the police saying I did not pay for the gas. I went back to the gas station and paid it again. When I checked my credit card statement, I found that the credit card charged only 1 dollar for the gas at the first time. I think that because their reading machine had some problem, and did not charge my credit card correctly, and failed to give receipt. today, I went to the store and explained that, hope the person in the store can help me explain to the police that was an accident caused by machine. But their attitude was very bad, as if I were somebody tried to avoid to pay for the gas purposely. I felt very angry and insulted. Can I sue them for this? What catogory can I sue them for??? I really feel very bad because of their attitude, they did not like to admit that their sale machine had some problem.very sad and dissappointed...
