1. determine how much was your capital loss on 2002 Sch D into two categories - short-term and long-term.
2. determine how much was your 2003 capital gain into same categories - short-term & long-term.
3. you can utilize all of the 2002 capital loss to offset 2003 capital gain. Short-term loss for ST gain, LT loss fot LT gain. There is no limitation on how much you can offset with 2003 capital gain.
