Hi,
I am 35 yrs old, married, wife 27 yrs, with 10K family income. My company has just 10K term life for free. And it will cost me 338$/yr, my wife 235$/yr to get 500K whole life insurance seperately through my employer.

Questions:
1. Is it necessary to buy extra whole life insurance?
2. If buy, how much is necessary, for me or for my wife or both?
3. Would it be better to purchase policies from other insurance companies ourselves? Is the rate by my employer competitive?
4. If I leave my employer, could I transfer these life insurance policies to my future employer?
