I wonder if anyone had similar situation and could you please share your experiences here?
My mom is in USA with a multi-entry B-2 visa, and the US immigration officer at the border gave her a 6 months stay stamp, as expected. We are thinking about having her stay here longer, and are currently weighing the options between applying for B2 extension vs. departing-reentering. As far as I know, it seems the disadvantage of applying extension at USA is the elevated likelihood of being rejected for next visa application (or even the current extension application) and the lengthy process. As for returning-china-then- reentering, it is time consuming and inconvenient. I am also pondering about a short trip to Canada / Mexico, then reentering USA, hoping to get a new I-94. However some websites, like http://www.immihelp.com/visas/extend.html, mentions that the applicant will have to “actually travel outside of North America and come back” to get a new I-94; while a new I-94 will NOT be given to those traveling to a neighboring country/island. Is this true? I wonder if anyone had similar situation, and how did u handle it? Those who came back from Canada with nonimmigrantn visas, like F-1, did you get a new I-94? Any new annotation at your I-94?
Thanks for your response.
