I gonna sue my roommate : (

I really feel ashamed to do this, but I have no other choice.This is a townhouse, the roommate moved in 2 years before and I move in one year before, we sign the 1 year contract with rental office together.He paid the deposit of $700 at the beginning (2 years before) so he asked me to pay him half of it when I moved in…I did it and wrote him a check (I still have the copy, but did not indicate it for deposit on the check, that’s his argument to deny it). But now, I am moving out and want my deposit back, he just won’t do it, and made up tons of excuses like I did not clean kitchen well or bathroom and so on, and yelled me all kinds of F*** dirty words. We got into a quarrel last night, when I showed him the proof of the checks, and he attacked me by hitting me with a 20 lb rice bag !! damn, I just controlled myself and did not fight back or else I was afraid I might killed him. I called the police anyway, and the police just leave a case NO. and left.
. After that, he was so happy the police did not help me more that he staying in front of my closed door for 20 minutes yelling and insulting me endlessly, and kicked the door wildly (the door was kicked broken). I just could not believe it what a mess I got into.So, anyone experienced may have some idea what should I prepare to have more chance to get my deposit back? If I sue him (the deposit, the violence attack, the broken door and the insulting) could it work and what could be the punishment to him? thanks!BTW, he said he had some psychological problem and on medicine now.
