I think it in another way. This lady is clearly not able to make up her own mind even though she is a mother already. Even at this point, she still put so much "benefitial" issue ahead of her own life.

I would have thought about her differently if she started this story by asking how to divorce her hu*****and. Instead, she is looking for outsiders to support her excuses for not using the legal weapon to protect herself and her children.

No matter if her hu*****and is American or not, even this happens to a Chinese couple in China, I still don't have too much sympathy toward her.
