Where did this happen? If this is in CA, the house transaction record becomes public information after recording at the county. Before recording, you need a court order to disclose related information.
Details in the lease agreement are very important. If the owner is a registered company (even if a one-man-entity), you have some advantages of being a non-merchant against a merchant about ambiguity in the lease. Depending on the location, you may have some advantages in state law as a renter.
