How to do it? Hire a lawyer?

Thanks for the help. I checked expungement online and it seems to be a good way. However, do you know whether I should hire a lawyer or get the public defener or do it by ourselves? It seems in New Jersey, they'll remove the record completely but in California you still have to disclose it to public credentialing or security clearnance.
