收到法院传票, 关于前房客的狗咬了人

房客的guest来玩的时候被房客的狗咬了. 这事发生在2020年, 此房客在2023年已搬走. 昨天收到法院传票, 两个房客和我都在被告之列. 一般来说, 狗咬人是狗主人负责的, 房东 is not liable, 除非房东事先知道这是一只凶狗. 我自然has no prior knowledge of that.

Summons 上没有 specific court date, 是这么写的:

You are summoned to appear before this court and to file your pleading to the petition and to serve a copy of your pleading upon the attorney for plaintiff all within 30 days after receiving this summons.

求助老猫等大拿们, 我该怎么应对? 是不是应该马上报房子的保险 (liability) 让保险公司来处理? 非常感谢!
