get a ticket

ran a yellow light but before I cleared the road, it turned red.
unfortunately a police just came up.
he stopped me and asked for driver license and proof of insurance.
I did not bring the proof of insurance. so he gave a ticket and it said that
I have no proof of insurance. I need appear in the court at 8:30am 11/18.
I did not read the ticket carefully when I talked to the police.
but he told me that I need bring the proof of insurance before 11/18 and then there would be no charge.
I just do not understand. after I show the proof of insurance, should I still appear on the court at 8:30am, 11/18?
anyone has any idea of what procedure should I follow or what should I do?
