买房遇到问题求教

在德州买自住房贷款未能按期完成，我们要求延期，seller要求我们追加了一些earnest money后同意了，但现在据说由于IRS
系统故障上周五递出的tax return 到这周五也没回信（一般为2-3天），如果再不能按期close也许seller会终止合同，现在涉及
到earnest money我有几个问题：
1、我们诚心买这个房子，怎么才能说服seller延期呢？他们不同意似乎也没什么好处吧。
2、如果真买不成了也不想把earnest money 全给seller,那怎么做才能split earnest money 呢？
