Get an attorney. There is a mandatory mediation for child custody cases. Your attorney will tell you what evidence you can present and what you can say to the mediator. How the mediator decides is up in the air. If your county is recommending, then the mediator's opinion will most likely be the final court order and it would be really hard to persuade the judge to go against the mediator. Bottom line, you have one shot with the mediator and you need put in your best effort, with help from an attorney of course.
