盗窃被逮捕--请给一些法律建议吧

我现人在美国,昨天因为在超市盗窃goceries(价值$120)被逮捕.看来他们证据比较充足,因为有个便衣作目击者.
这是我的第一次,都是那次听朋友大谈如何在超市安全的顺手牵羊后鬼迷心窍.
能不能请法律界的朋友给一些好的建议,现在这种情况我应该如何做是自己处于比较有利的位置.比如是否应该在法庭上认罪?是否一定会留下犯罪记录?
