you have not changed any of your logic. This is not about 人离乡贱,物离乡贵.不论是情,是理,找谁说去?!

The family, though now in a dire sitution, was not likely bullied/oppressed by the reason of 人离乡贱.

I agree with CAT that you would be giving the family a false hope that they might get some sort of finanical gain by making a fuss about it.
