被人告hit and run，咋办啊？

事情是这样的，有人告我在4月份一个晚上在停车场帕车时后保险杠撞到了一辆车的侧门
，说我当时下车看了一眼车尾然后就开车走了。车主自述当时就在车内，另外还有目击证
人。今天去警察局录了口供。对警察实话实说我确实记不得当时发生过什么事情了。我自
个琢磨半天也想不起当时发生了啥。不过我觉得也许那边说得是事实，如果他们还有目击
证人的话，也许当时我下车看了觉得没事就走了。现在确实一点都回忆不起当时的情景了
。警察跟我说让我回去等法庭消息。有谁有过类似的经历啊。这hit and run罪名听起来
好像很严重的说。有没有可能能和对方车主协商一下私下解决呢。
