Should I pay my cell phone global internet roaming bill?

Recently I brought my smart phone back to China. When I opened it and used it as my phonebook. Its global internet connection was turned on automatically because of its default setting. I didn't notice it until two days later I received verizon's messenges saying that my bill was over $500. I argued it with verizon, but they only gave me 20% off. What should I do with the bill?

Anyone has same experience?
