It is you who decided not to insure your car. When your car is at fault, your car is a loss.  Your friend uses your car, under your permission, it is kind of the same as you drive the car. (If she drives without permission, or she stole your car, or she deliberately damage your car, I would think she owns you money.)

Of course, I am not a lawyer and not sure if I am right.
