social assistance for senior

my parents immigranted here a year ago, but have bad relationship with my hu*****and.they moved out, we pay their rent and other expenses. they dont' want to be our burdern and mentioned to apply for social assistance. can they get it because my hu*****and has a good job? will it effect our income?
