请教各位layoff以后是否有义务替原雇主工作？

老公前两个个月被layoff了（整个部门关了）8月15日是最后一天，但现在原公司又有些东西要他帮忙做，原来他也基本答应了，可后来发现他们在工作要求上撒了谎。就不想和他们纠缠了。可现在他们说你拿了解雇补偿金就必须替他工作。我的理解8月15日以后他和原公司就没有关系了。也没义务替他们工作了不知我的理解对不对?先谢了。
