请帮帮我

我在几天前到商店顺手拿了一些化妆品没有交钱就出来了，被人发现，然后叫了警察，下个月要开庭。当时真的是一时糊涂，我知道是自己的错，应该承受由此带来的结果，所以我对警察说我承认自己错了，也不打算找律师。但我还很年轻，真的不想以后永远都留下这样一个记录。请大家给我一些建议，我该怎么办？我应该找律师吗？现在他们已经决定控告我了，如果找律师可能让我不用上法庭吗？谢谢。还要，我在加拿大，如果我不找律师，认定我的罪名成立了，我会受到怎样的惩罚呢？
