he Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) received multiple witness testimonies for a cone-like UFO on September 19, most likely the result of a NASA experiment.
NASA apparently launched a Black Brant XII September 19 from Wallops Island, Virginia. You can see the actual launch and what it looked like in the sky at this YouTube video.
From NASA's web site:
"The four-stage Black Brandt shown here blasting off from a launch pad at the Wallops Island Flight Facility in rural Virginia is at 66 feet (20 meters), the tallest of NASA's 13 sounding rockets. These rockets can carry scientific payloads of various weights up to 1,213 lbs. (550 kg) to altitudes from 30 miles (48 km) to more than 800 miles (1,287 km). Researchers like to use sounding rockets because they offer an inexpensive means for conducting space, microgravity and Earth science research and have proven to be invaluable test beds for new technologies. The Wallops facility conducts about 35 launches per year."
Over at the MUFON witness reporting area, many testimonies were filed, including these:
NJ, September 19, 2009 - Object made Mist/Cloud, mist enveloped object, object disappeared. MUFON Case # 19498. About 20 folks at an ourdoor dinner party in Pittstown reported an unusual object at 7:30 p.m. EST "beween Saturn and the Constellation Sagitarius" that generated a cloud or mist.
PA, September 19, 2009 - Large bright light with triangular beam emanating from below. MUFON Case # 19491. This Pennsylvania witness reported a bright, round light moving east across the sky that had a beam shining down from it, and then mist that "traveled for another 15 to 20 seconds and then evaporated."
PA, September 19, 2009 - Cone Shaped Beam of Light Descends From Sky. MUFON Case # 19490. Another Pennsylvania report from Brookeville at about 8 p.m. CST describes a bright point of light followed by a cone-shaped beam of light. MUFON Case # 19486 seems to be the same witness.
PA, September 19, 2009 - Bright light - upside down cone. MUFON Case # 19488. A Pennsylvania report describes "a bright cone-like" object "to the left of Mercury.
CN, September 19, 2009 - Bright stationary light shining down from an undiciperable object in cone shape pattern that just faded from sight without movement. MUFON Case # 19483. A group from Connecticut reported that at 8 p.m. CST they saw "a very bright light in a cone shaped pattern."
ME, September 19, 2009 - During Acadia Nightsky Photography Workshop, an unidentified bright object appeared and then disappeared. MUFON Case # 19482. And finally, this report from a night sky photography class where 15 people observed a "cone of light" at 7:50 p.m. EST. The group was obviously photographing the sky - and the photograph here is one of them.
