Don't be so defensive. I am just asking some questions.

回答: Is “A miss" English at all?落梅如雪乱2010-05-10 21:58:55

I am not saying he is not good. The fact that he keeps posting jokes in English indicates he is interested in practicing English. Maybe that's his way of improving it. I like it because it helps me too. That's why when I see something wrong I would point it out. If he is not persistent and modest, I wouldn't bother.

The problem I see with "miss"is that it's either used in capitalized form before a lady's last name, e.g. Miss Winders, or, in quite rare situation, in uncapitalized form to address a lady, e.g. Would you like me to put it here, miss? I have never seen this word being used to refer to a class.

Some words can only be used in certain ways. In Chinese we have similar situation. The dictionary probably will tell you 拙荆 means wife, but you'll never say 那个女人是李先生的拙荆,or 昨天的聚会上有一群漂亮的拙荆。
