Age Problem

President Ronald Reagan wanted to run a second term as the president of USA. The managers of his campaign realized a big problem - Reagan’s age. Therefore Reagan tried to make use of every opportunity to downplay the age issue.

In the second debate, Reagan and Mondale exchanged attacks sharply. Then the coordinator of the debate Henry Trewihtt raised an expected question.

“Mr. President, you are already the oldest president in the history. Some of your staff said you were tired after a recent encounter with Mr. Mondale. I recall that President Kennedy had to work several days with little sleep during the crisis of Cuba missile. Do you have any doubt in your mind that you will be able to function in such circumstances?”

“Not at all. “ Reagan smiled. “I want you know that in this campaign I don’t want to make the age an issue. I’m not going to exploit for political purpose my opponent used as inexperienced. “ (big laugh from the audience right at this moment)
