人到底有几根fingers?

记得很久以前跟一个老外同事聊天，忘了当时说的什么事儿了，我说“十根手指头伸出来还不一样长呢”，他微笑着听完我说，然后慢慢地、小声地说“八根”
“What?”
“Eight, eight fingers.”
…从那以后才知道，在老外的概念里，thumb不算finger，所以，每个人只有八根fingers。

昨天跟老婆讲起这个典故，老婆做顿悟状，“怪不得他们数学不好呢，满手数来数去也数不到两位数！”
