很巧，我大约两周前将此诗发给一群老同学，并附上我的评论如下：

这歌的歌词蛮有意思的，第二和第三段里列举了一串不可能事件来表示不愿意与情人复合 ：如第二段 make a shirt with no seam nor needlework （不过现代倒真有一体成型的化纤衣服） ，第三段 find an acre of land between the saltwater and the sea strand。
歌手唱第二段时还带着一些嘲弄的口吻，唱第三段时则分明显出愤怒和绝决了。
这歌词让人联想到汉乐府里的“上邪”，“上邪”同样也列举了一连串不可能的事件，但不是用来表示不愿复合，而恰好是相反，表示永不分离。
还有每一段第二句中重复的四种香草，也让人想到“诗经”里常用的手法“兴”。

翻译者的文笔甚佳，但对原诗的意思却没能完全弄明白。此诗恰与汉乐府”上邪“相反，以一连串不可能做到的事来表示决不会与旧情人复合。
