-As I said, the child has no a legal status before the extension approval, so he.she cannot do anything (cannot file a new extension or file I-485). If his/her status has gap, he/she cannot file another B2 extension and cannot file I-485 either within US. Thus, he/she needs to go to China to apply for a visa to come back either immigrant visa or B2 visa. By the way, because the child is less than 18 years old, the child 'sunlawful presence in US will not be subjected to 3- or 10-year bar if he/she leaves US even if he/she lives in US illegally for more than one year.
