-It only take about 2 to 3 weeks for the H-1 petition preparation, so ask your employer to do it as soon as possible. As long as you file H-1 application before OPT ends, your H-1 approval will have no problem, but you can not work until H-1 is approved. So, you may ask your employer to use premium processing to get the H-1 approved in 15 days to work.
You still have 60-day grace period of F-1 to stay in US legally after OPT ends, but if you file the H-1 application in the grace period, your H-1 approval will have no I-94 and thus, you just need to go to China to get he H-1 visa to come back (no big deal, anyway).
