AOS不能开车吗？

what kind of extended residency proof i need to provide with the status of AOS for driver license status check? I brought my I-485 receipt from USCIS and my driver license application is denied so that I can't drive from tomorrow.
What's the deal? why AOS can work with an EAD but can't drive.
Any one has a similar experience? Please share your experience.
Luckily soon I will get my H1B.
