job when they interview you for I485. If you think the interview will be 3-5 years later, you may do whatever you want now. My friend who as unemployed for half a year before his I485 interview, but luckily he just got a similar job and got the notice of interview. And the officer didn't check what he did in the past. So he got his green card.
