Whether or not you have a H1B visa stamp on your passport, you don't necessarily need a H1B visa to re-enter US. However, if you don't have a H1B visa stamp on your passport, you'd better be prepared to be asked many questions.

You don't need any other reasons to apply for H1B visa as long as you are working in US and your previous H1B visa for US entry has expired.

When you do your landing, you can write more goods to follow in the Goods To Follow form so that you can bring more goods to Canada later if you want to.
