The reason that the 945 doesn't recognize a full 4GB of RAM is because 750MB of memory addresses are taken up by PCI Devices. The 945 had to support 32bit only CPUs so it can't cheat and extend the PCI addresses to the upper end of the 64bit pool. unlike the newer Santa Rosa chipset, it will let you see all 4GB because it was designed exclusively with 64bit capable CPUs (on a 64bit OS that is). AMD chipset s since the first Athlon 64 have not had this limitation either since those chipset s NEVER had to deal with 32bit only CPUs.
