当日，Twitter股价在纽约证券交易所的常规交易中大幅下跌9.56美元，报收于63.75美元，跌幅为13.04%，盘中曾触及63.69美元的低点。但在本月截至周四收盘为止的交易中，Twitter股价已上涨了65%以上，自上个月IPO（首次公开招股）上市以来更是上涨了近三倍。
麦格理研究公司（Macquarie Research）分析师本·沙克特（Ben Schachter）周五发布研究报告，将Twitter的股票评级下调至“卖出”。他认为，这只股票的上涨走势缺乏合理的理由作为支持。
“我们认为，从基本面来看，过去几个星期时间里并没有什么事情发生了变化，从而足以证明（Twitter）股价的大幅上涨是合理的。”沙克特在今天发布的这份报告中写道。“我们预计，在你们曾经看到过的调低股票评级的报告中，这份报告几乎会是最短的，因为自我们将Twitter评级初次评定为‘中性’（Neutral）以来，就基本面而言没有什么事情有所变化。”
沙克特同意很多分析师的观点，即作为一个人气颇高的社交网络，Twitter在网络广告领域中拥有庞大的增长潜力，就此而言是很有前途的。但他指出，实现这种潜力需要花费时间，并指出到目前为止Twitter仍未能实现盈利，而且需要更多的劳动力。
斯科特指出，Twitter拥有“很多机会，但需要时间和更多的员工才能实现”；“虽然我们很看好Twitter的发展潜力，但需要强调的是，需要时间和人力来执行这些机会”。换而言之，他认为Twitter投资者很可能不应过早地对这家公司的前景感到过于激动。
美国投资公司Wedbush分析师迈克尔·帕切特（MichaelPachter）也曾在两周以前指出，Twitter股价是“在没有实际新闻支持的情况下大幅上涨”。
事实上，其他一些分析师看起来也赞同这种观点。据财经信息供应商FactSet称，大多数分析师都将Twitter的股价定为“持有”（Hold）。
而沙克特则认为，甚至就连这种情况也可能会发生改变。他表示：“我们预计，其他许多分析师很快就将不得不证明上调Twitter目标价是合理的，或是调低其股票评级。”
