DJ Gold Rises Amid Growing Worries Over U.S. Government Shutdown -- Market Talk

2348 GMT - Gold rises in the early morning Asian session amid growing worries over the U.S. government shutdown. Senate Democrats again blocked Republicans' seven-week stopgap spending bill, effectively guaranteeing that the government shutdown will stretch into this week. There are "mounting concerns over the implications of the ongoing shutdown, which is said to be structurally different from past episodes," XS.com's Samer Hasn says in an email. There are also geopolitical risks, the senior market analyst says. "These developments are amplifying hedging demand for gold as markets weigh the risk of shocks across multiple fronts," Hasn adds. Spot gold is 0.6% higher at $3,910.32/oz after earlier touching a fresh record of $3,920.77/oz, ICE data show. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
