DJ Powell Wraps Up Press Conference After 'Risk-Management Cut' -- WSJ

Fed Chair Jerome Powell wrapped up his post-meeting press conference by saying the central bank is trying to balance its goals as it faces an unusual situation. Earlier, he described the Fed's quarter-point interest rate cut as a "risk-management cut."
The emphasis was on the weakening labor market in his remarks Wednesday, and the tension that creates between the Fed's goals of creating maximum employment while maintaining price stability at a time when inflation remains elevated. For now, the Fed appears more concerned about the employment side of its mandate rather than the inflation side.
