Stocks add to gains after Bessent reportedly says China deal is possible

The S&P 500 has added to its gains for the session in the wake of a report about optimistic comments from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Bessent said trade negotiations with China haven’t started but that a deal is possible, according to a Bloomberg News report citing his remarks at a investor summit that wasn't open to the public. He also said the tariff standoff with China is unsustainable and that he expects the situation to de-escalate, according to the report.
