Suppose you are in the high income tax bracket. Federal tax plus CA tax plus investment tax totally (37+10.3+3.8) 51.1%. Inflation eat 3%. what left is 5.8 - 2.96 - 3 =-0.16%. In high inflation environment CD is not going to make you money.
