Tesla Motors /quotes/zigman/118681/delayed /quotes/nls/tsla TSLA +1.23% CEO Elon Musk said in an interview Tuesday that concerns over three fires in the company’s high-end electric sports sedans are overblown.
Musk spoke at the New York Times’ DealBook conference.
He said all three fires occurred after accidents and that in the second case in particular, the Model S safety features probably saved the driver and passengers’ lives.
He said he’d spoken with the drivers in all three cases and all had asked for replacement Model S cars as soon as possible.
Shares of Tesla peaked Sept. 30 at 194.50 before the first of the three Model S fires jolted the shares.
With the pullback in shares, Musk said he thinks “the stock’s a pretty good deal right now.”
Musk spoke with Andrew Ross Sorkin.
