how to pull out catridge of vintage faucet?

I took screw out. Do I need plier and some tool to pull out handles with brutal force? or unscrew counterclockwise ? They are stuck.

  1. Turn off the water supply - Find the shut-off valves for your tub/shower (usually behind an access panel or in the basement) and turn them off.
  2. Remove the handles - The decorative handles should unscrew counterclockwise. If they're stuck, you may need to use pliers with a cloth to protect the finish.
  3. Remove the packing nut - Behind each handle, there should be a large hexagonal packing nut. Use an adjustable wrench to turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
  4. Pull out the cartridge - Once the packing nut is removed, you should be able to pull the cartridge straight out. If it's stuck from mineral buildup:
    • Try gently wiggling while pulling
    • Use a cartridge puller tool if available
    • Spray with penetrating oil and let sit for a few minutes
