Finally replaced this old bathroom ceiling fan without changing the enclosure (new fan much quieter). Enclosure quiet rusty. Tried my best to clean lint. Repainting too tough high up so I did not bother.
Could the enclosure be changed without going into attic? Manual too long to read.
ChatGPT asked me to cut dry wall. Going attic may be way to go if I have to change it.
"Whole housing/enclosure box (the metal box nailed to joists) → This is harder. The enclosure is typically nailed or screwed to ceiling joists from above. To remove and replace the housing without attic access, you’d usually need to:
-
Cut drywall around the old housing to free it.
-
Disconnect wiring and ductwork from below.
-
Insert a retrofit fan that’s designed for installation from below the ceiling (many brands make these)."
