Lots of things constitute domestic violence, not only physical, but over-persuasion, undue influence, verbal abuse, mental torture, threats, are all domestic violence. Lots of communities have their own meditation centers for abused women and the service is free. You can call them to seek help. Sometimes they even provide temperary room and board for you. They could go talk to the party on your behalf as well. At least you need to establish the long domestic violence history and have some records with a third person so that you could prove self-defense later in court. Lastly, I don't recommend using violence for violence. Seeking proper help, such as going to police, is always a better idea, unless you feel that you are under serious threats of death or seriou bodily harm.
