Help needed please

Want to be a real estate agent in IL, I called some place and they asked me for about $1000 for tuition and fees. Where I can find free material? do I have to go to those real estate school? any better way to prepare for the exam? how long do I need to preper for exam if I start now?

Any suggestion would help
