My opinion: It is a good thing. China is reclaiming its past glory that got destroyed by western nations and Japan. It is called the century of humiliation’ where China was pummeled and forced into a colonial outpost of western greed.

With Mao, the rise of a new China began. Under Mao, things didn’t go smoothly. Because of its adherence to communism, it was ostracized by the west and became an outlier of world economics and politics. With Deng Xiaoping’s rise, China turned to a hybrid economic system encouraging private enterprise and capitalism. Today, China is second only to the US in nominal GDP, It passed the US in PPP GDP in 2014. China represents about 20% of the world’s population, India likewise. Both will have an impact on the future in the world.

China plans never to let the ‘century of humiliation’ occur again. Before she was weak so the west took advantage of China. Today, China is much stronger in not only economic terms, but militarily and politically. The naysayers throw rocks of every color trying to demean and discourage China’s rise. She will not be discouraged. She wants a peaceful rise but is willing to defend that rise. There will never be a ‘century of humiliation’ for China again.
