Yes, it's not easy for an amateur to retrieve the data from a broken disk. Don't you have any computer maniac friends nearby to help you? If so, go to them. That's the best solution. It's true that you're wasting your time if you know little about hardware.

If your data is confidential, it's better not to send the disk to a service shop to get repaired.
