DVD +/- RW burner problem. Thanks for ur help.

The DVD+/-RW burner on my Latitude D610 can only burn DVD-Rs, not DVD+Rs. Supposedly a DVD+/- RW burner can burn both types of blank DVDs. I used both Sonic RecordNow and Nero 7 but had the same results. Can somebody tell me how this problem comes along and how to fix it?
