I had a InFocus X2 ($780) with a 106” screen ($130). I love it, although as you said, it is not bright enough for some movies... I think I will buy a better projector next time...

With a $1500~2000 budget, you can buy a very good projector from InFocus.

Friend of mind has a Sharp projector (around 1300). Comparing these two, i think my projector provides much brighter and sharper images. Check the configrations before you buy it...

When you saw the picture in a 106" screen, I bet you will never regret your decision
