How to make the background color of my powerpoint slide look

lighter than its original?

Say I use a picture as the background of my powerpoint slide. But I want to make it lighter?

How? Thanks.

Someone told me to use photoshop and edit the picture first. But that's too much work for me. I was wondering whether powerpoint could do it or not.
