Is this the original broken HD, not your backup HD, right? What happened to that backup HD? can you boot from it? If so, can you try to use this as the slave to that backup HD and see if you can get the data back.
I just realized you are using a recovery CD from vendor, that reinstallation normally will format everything. So don't do any reinstallation again.
