It could be very slow when rendering large files.
You'd better have two internal HDs. Install the system on the faster drive. Use the slower one to store/capture the movies. When you work on the captured file, you'd better move the file to the faster hard drive.
The quality depends on the raw material(the captured file). So the source file from DV, Hi8 or 8mm have different pic qualities.

This is my friend's Machine:
P4 2.4GHz(800 Bus) overclocked to 2.89.(HyperThread is supported by VedioStudio 6/7)
Mobo: ASUS P4P800
HD1: WD Raptor 36GB(10K rpm, 8MB)
HD2: WD 120GB (7.2K rpm,8MB)
Video Card: ATI All-in-Wonder 8500
RAM:512MB HyperX Dual-Channel DDR3500
Even this machine took a long time to render large files.
